I will always remember sitting across from a lender who told me my overseas income “didn’t count.” I’d spent eight years building a career abroad, and none of it translated into the trust I needed to buy a home.
I could have taken that as the final word. Instead, I took it as the starting point.
That’s really what growth mindset comes down to. Growth is not a moment you arrive at, but a habit you keep choosing. It’s not the single decision to “think bigger” once and then coast. It’s choosing, again and again, to see a setback as information rather than a verdict.
I see this play out constantly with the women I work with. Brilliant, capable, already achieving real success, and still waiting for some future point where they’ll finally feel ready to go further. Ready to invest. Ready to scale. Ready to ask for what they actually want.
Here’s what two decades in this industry have taught me: readiness isn’t something that arrives on its own. It’s built, deliberately, through the small decisions you make when nobody’s watching. The extra question you ask before signing something. The strategy conversation you have a year earlier than you think you need to. The choice to treat your own financial future with the same seriousness you’d bring to any other high-stakes decision.
Growth mindset isn’t a personality trait some people have and others don’t. It’s a practice. And like any practice, it compounds.
So here’s my question for you today: what’s one decision, however small, that would move you closer to the future you’re actually building toward?
You don’t need certainty to take it. You just need to choose it.
