We all have routines, but sometimes they work for us and sometimes against us.

I’ve got a couple that I love that really serve me well. The first is about managing my start and end of day at work. I start with a 5-10 minute stand up meeting with my team so we can all check in and be aware of any priorities for each of us. I then tackle my list of things to do, starting with the one I least want to do. That gets that over and done with so I can then do other tasks that I enjoy more.

At the end of the day I clear my desk and update my list of priorities for the next day so that I’m ready to hit the ground running.

My second favourite routine is around money management. On payday I have all these automatic transfers happen in my bank account that make sure all the money I earn goes to the right places to support my savings plan and my spending plan. The best part of this routine is that once it’s been fine-tuned, I play no part in it other than to sit back and know that my money is working for me and doing exactly what it’s supposed to be doing.

These routines work beautifully 99% of the time. They won’t always be perfect as sometimes things come up that we don’t expect. That’s where flexibility is required.

What routines do you have that serve you well and what could do with some attention?
