I’ve been reading a lot of inspirational stories, blogs and posts over the past couple of weeks and came across a quote that really resonates with me,

“Small disciplines repeated with consistency every day lead to great achievements gained slowly over time.”

The quote is by John Maxwell, a well known author on books primarily on leadership.

I think the reason that this really struck me is that we’re living in a world of “I want it, and I want it now”, and that just doesn’t always work. Actually, it rarely works in my experience. And if it does, it’s often “easy come, easy go”.

We don’t have to go out and change the world in one giant leap. We don’t have to completely change everything in our life/work/relationship/health if something isn’t working.

But we do need to be aware of what is working and what isn’t. What we love and what we don’t love so much. What we want but don’t have yet.

Then we make a plan.

Then we implement that plan. In stages that are achievable and sustainable.

If other people are part of that plan, we have to gain their buy in and commitment to the goal/task/project.

We need to set milestones and celebrate achievements along the way to keep us focused and motivated.

We need to find a way to make it work.

And sometimes that means we need to slow down and take things one step at a time.

We will get there…. just maybe not today. And that needs to be OK.
