Last weekend I took my team to Hamilton Island for two nights of R&R, team building, bonding and fun.

Every day, Monday to Friday, 9am-ish to 5pm-ish, we’re together, working. Achieving our goals, aiming to surpass our customer’s expectations, beating deadlines, figuring out solutions, learning, growing and trying to do better.

It’s been an incredibly tough environment for the past few years but despite that we’ve managed to seize the opportunities, improve our service levels, increase our audience, grow our customer base and build the business.

And for that, I’m incredibly grateful to my team.

So, to keep that important balance in life, last weekend was the time to say thanks and to play. And what a place to do it in!

We walked, we sailed, we ate, we drank, we laughed, we played games, we talked about work, our goals, our passions. We celebrated. We got to know each other – something we can only do on a surface level at work. Most importantly, we enjoyed each others’ company.

Without my team, I wouldn’t be where I am today.

If I hadn’t stepped out of my comfort zone to start employing people to do those tasks I wasn’t great at or didn’t enjoy, I certainly wouldn’t be where I am today.

It took a leap of faith, and I’m so glad I had the courage, the vision and support to take that leap.
