Kindness is something that is so important yet often so easily forgotten.

I don’t know about you, but to me, kindness is one of the most important things in the world. It changes my day when someone is kind to me and it also changes my day when I’m kind to someone else.

It doesn’t have to be big, grand gestures. It can be as simple as checking in on a neighbour or a friend you haven’t spoken to for a while, sharing something you cooked with someone who may need it, bringing their bins in after they’ve been emptied. There are a ton of things that you can easily do.

But, when it comes to being kind, the most important person to be kind to is always ourselves. Especially in times like these.

Maybe you’re not achieving your goals as fast as you wished, maybe you’re carrying a few extra Covid kilos and not exercising as much as you would like to (other than to the fridge and back).

Maybe you’re not getting ahead at work as you’d planned or you’ve had to suspend your job search while business is readjusting. Maybe your plans for business growth have to be re-evaluated and jigged.

Maybe your savings plan has stalled for a while and you’re struggling to regain momentum. Maybe you can’t find that house to buy and you’re worried that you’ll never make it happen.

Whatever is happening right now that doesn’t feel right or good or planned. Stop. Take a breath. If it’s not the end of the world, be kind to yourself. Take another breath. And another. Things will work out when the time is right, if it’s the right thing for you. You’ll make it happen! Because that’s what we do.

The only thing we can really be right now is kind. To ourselves, our family and friends and our community. Anger, disappointment, resentment and all that stuff gets us nowhere (other than feeling worse).

Of course, if you’re just stuck in a funk and need a bit of a kick in the pants, do that too – but do it with love and kindness.

How are you dealing with things right now? Do you need to be a little bit kinder or are you feeling the love?
